Trend is now acknowledging the issue. Also as posted in one of the comments below there is a partial solution. However the official solution is to update 3.6 to 3.6 Patch 1 (direct Link)
First find the NTRtScan.exe file
in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Security Server\PCCSRV\Pccnt
Right Click on it to check the version.
If you have 7.6.0.1095 then you need the patch (not sure about other versions, call Trend)
after the patch you will be at 7.6.0.1161
After applying you may need to reboot.
Use TMTouch.exe to force clients to update to 7.6.0.1161

Update: Trend 4.995.00 Patch wrecking havoc across networks
Apparently this an issue with newer definitions as well.
NTFRS may be impacted as well as VSS. (?)
I have removed Trend from workstations till an official solution is found.

Trend 4.995.00 wrecking havoc across networks
So yesterday (02/12/08), at about 10:00am trend released a new pattern file, the infamous 4.995.00 pattern file. Symptoms include very slow and sluggish computer. Outlook very slow to respond. A few computers had BSOD "invalid boot device". Most we got back, but some had to be rebuilt from the ground up. Still no word from trend website but a call to support does acknowledge the issue. The trend recommendation is only to remove and install Trend.
I should note that some computers just moved on to the next pattern file, with no issues at all.
